The Red List, 2022
This audio piece explores Britain’s passionate birding community and their efforts to help a growing number of UK bird species that find themselves on “the red list”. Compiled by leading bird charities and conservation scientists, the list identifies bird species whose numbers are drastically declining in the UK. Through sound, we learn about these birds and the everyday people who have joined the fight to save them.
We take a peek behind the data. We find a world in which citizens gather, record and share information with scientists as they come together in a concerted effort to save birds from threats including habitat loss and climate change. We witness how crowdsourcing and technology are crucial tools in this joint effort and celebrate the successes achieved in recent years.
